The second day began with a tour in the civic center district of the opera house with a luxurous interior furnished from Europe and Brazil.
That was followed by a trip to the central market where we saw shrimp, manioc, and other foods. Before departing for a second river trip, we stocked up on jack fruit for an evening meal.
The second trip was a private trip focused on nature.
We chartered a boat, crossed the river, and traveled up narrow passage ways for a close look at the jungle. We heard the sounds of many insects. We then transferred to smaller boats to go fishing in the back waters of the Rio Negro.
After nearly an hour of fishing, we caught piranha and other species of fish. We keep some of them for a meal to be enjoyed later.
Next, our guides took us caiman hunting. Three young ones (caiman) were caught. Our guides instructed us on how to hold caimans, then several of us tried to hold the caimans and found them docile and well-mannered. We then released them back into the water.
The piranha did not fare as well. On the way back to Manaus, we had a meal of piranha and fruit. We tasted pirahna and decided that it was good to eat.
The long day ended with a stay at a cheap hotel to give us a chance to rest before the 3:00 am flight to Brazilia.
