Helvite Series Visible Spectra (380 - 1100 nm)
Image of the Helvite absorption spectrum
CIT 12885 spectrum; Helvite from
the Hot Spot Mine, Iron Mtn, Sierra Co, New Mexico. This is an orange-brown
0.278 mm thick sample. The color is from its manganese content. Data File:
- CIT 9305 spectrum
VIS region, 0.5 mm thick;
NIR region, 0.090 mm thick
Genthelvite from Diamond Hill, Rhode Island, USA.
This is a pink crystal. The visible region spectrum was taken on a 0.342 mm thick slab and plotted as 0.5 mm.
Data File: 26K.
The NIR region was taken on a 0.090 mm thick slab and plotted as 0.090 mm.
The color is from the iron content, but weak Mn2+ features can also
been seen in the spectrum.
- Swedish Natural History Museum 530965 spectrum;
Helvite from Brevig, Langesundsfjord, Norway. Scanned from Halenius
(2011) Peridiodico di Mineralogia 80, p105. The spectrum is mostly from
Mn2+ in the tetrahedral site.
