Lazulite Visible Spectra (350 - 1050 nm)

• GRR 571 spectrum, 5K; from Graves Mountain, Georga, USA. 0.092 mm thick sample. The intense blue color of this material comes from the Fe²⁺ - Fe³⁺  intervalence charge transfer.  It varies considerably with the direction in which it is observed. It is blue when polarized along the b and g directions (~a and b axes) and is colorless when parallel to a (~c-axis).  The g direction (not shown) is nearly identical to the b direction.  Data Files: alpha 6K; beta 4K;
