Ringwoodite Visible Spectra (350 - 1050 nm)
Ringwoodite is well known as a synthetic mineral and also has been found as a naturally occuring phase. It often has a blue color as seen in this synthetic ringwoodite, sample SZ9901 from Smyth et al. (2003). The color comes from Fe2+-Fe3+ intervalence charge transfer.

black trace is through the full thickness of the sample.
The sample is nearly opaque and gives poor data. The blue
trace is through an inclusion in the sample that
effecively decreases the thickness through which the data
are obtained. The blue color color of this substance
comes from its iron content. Data Files: Data taken through
