Scapolite spectra

Scapolite Group Visible Spectra (350 - 1100 nm)

The scapolite group minerals vary from marialite, Na₄A_l3Si₉O₂₄Cl, to meionite, Ca₄Al₆Si₆O₂₄CO₃
The origin of color of violet scapolite is related to radiation-induced color centers involving the CO₃^- ion that can be formed from radiation damage.
The gem quality varieties of the scapolite group of minerals pictured here are usually the mineral marialite.
