Sugilite Spectra (350 - 1100 nm)

The origin of pink color in sugilite, KNa2Fe3+2(Li3Si12)O30, is it's managanese (Mn3+) content substituting for ferric iron. Larger pieces are often purple, but when polished thin and examined in the regions that are pure sugilite, they are pink.
