Hemimorphite Visible Spectra (380 - 1050 nm)
Hemimorphite, Zn4Si2O7(OH)2·H2O,
when pure zinc hydroxy silicate, is colorless, but minor amounts of
other ions such as copper can cause color.
The copper-containing hemimorphite
absorption spectrum
- GRR 3168 spectrum; from Katanga,
Democratic Republic
of the Congo, 0.628 mm thick sample. This is the spectrum through a
(110) cleavage taken in the two extinction directions. The sample is
not oriented along principal optic
directions. The color of this material comes from the Cu2+
