Sugilite spectra

Sugilite Spectra (350 - 1100 nm)

The origin of pink color in sugilite, KNa₂Fe³⁺₂(Li₃Si₁₂)O₃₀, is it's managanese (Mn³⁺) content substituting for ferric iron. Larger pieces are often purple, but when polished thin and examined in the regions that are pure sugilite, they are pink.
