Rio de Janeiro

Rio from above

Our last days in Brazil were in a four star hotel in Rio on Ipanema Beach adjacent to the famous walkways along the beach.

Our first day in Rio was for tourism. We rode the railroad tram up to the famous Christ statue (Corcovado) for splendid views of the city below. After lunch, we took an aerial tram up to sugarloaf mountain where we saw good views of the city, a local statue and other art.

Because the next day, drizzles cancelled our hike up a local mountain, our final trip was to the LEGEP mineral store where we saw many of the spectacular geodes and other minerals for which Brazil is famous.

Our celabratory meal was at a local churrascaria, heavy in meat and with a mango for the Professor.
