bands near 580 and 400 nm
are associated with trapped electrons (F-center) in the presence of
yttrium (Y3+) ions.
The band near 714 nm has been associated with a F-center near cerium
(Ce) ions.

Huanzala, Peru. This spectrum shows the 485 nm band from a O23-
molecular ion
stabilized by an adjacent Y3+ ion in addition to the 400 and
580 nm bands from the

unknown locality; 2.20 mm thick. The band near 560 nm is associated

Brazil. This bright green
variety is known locally as chromium-green fluorite. The color is not
due to chromium, but rather the bands near 690, 611, 440 and 422 nm
are associated with divalent samarium (Sm2+) ions.
